In 2008 Ben Loyns and his father climbed Snowdon when he was just 7, which was their first real father son adventure they'd had. Ben and his father then went on to climb Scaffel Pike in 2009 and planned to climb Ben Nevis in the 2010 summer holidays. Sadly, Ben was diagnosed with Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma in the first week of that summer holiday and he never got to climb Ben Nevis.
At Ben's funeral, his father and 11 other friends and family decided that they would complete the adventure and climb Ben Nevis, Scaffel Pike and Snowdon in memory of Ben. This was the beginning of the Ben Loyns Three Peaks Challenge. The challenge involves climbing and descend the 3 highest mountains (Peaks) in the United Kingdom, one after another in less than 24hrs (including driving).
The charity runs this event each year for teams to enter to raise money for the charity. The next challenge is planned for Saturday 29th - Sunday 30th August 2015.
